The LSU Emergency Animal Shelter stopped accepting animals as of September 30th, 2005 and closed down all operations on October 10th, 2005. Animals that were left after September 30th, 2005 were considered “abandoned” and are being conditionally adopted into shelters and foster homes. Unaltered animals may undergo spaying or neutering depending on the policies of the shelters that receive them.

All owners who relinquished their pets to this shelter signed a release notifying them that they must pick up their pets by September 30th, 2005. All animals that have been conditionally adopted into a shelter, or with an individual, will be held until December 31st, 2005 to allow an appropriate length of time for owners to be reunited with their pets. Should the original owner come forward and reclaim their pet by December 31, 2005 then the animal must be relinquished to the original owner.
