We’ve all seen the Humane Society of the United States’ ads on television. The mournful music, the soulful eyes and mangled faces of “abandoned” pets tug at our hearts. We find the same ads on the Internet. All of this manufactured pathos has one objective our wallets not help for shelter animals.
In 2008, the HSUS distributed only one half of one percent of its $100 Million Dollar yearly budget to real, hands-on animal shelters across the US. Yet in that same year Two and One-half Million was contributed to it’s own pension fund. And it’s difficult to uncover just how much their corporate officers are paid.
A new organization, Humane Watch, was established for “keeping a watch on the Humane Society of the United States.” Take a look at their website: www.humanewatch.org and encourage all your friends who love their animals to do so too.
Humane Watch took out full-page ads, in February in the New York Times; in April in USA Today to let the public know exactly where their donations are really being used. You can see these ads on their website.
Take a look.
